Purpose: This study was done to identify senior center nurses¡¯ experience on emergency management.
Methods: From May to August 2018, data were collected through three focus group interviews (FGIs) with 11 senior center nurses. All recorded data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.
Results: In the research, there were barriers and facilitators for emergency management. Two themes, four categories, and eight sub-categories were found. Themes were ¡®barriers to emergency management¡¯ and ¡®facilitators to emergency management¡¯. Categories for the first theme were: 1) burden of emergency response; 2) insufficient emergency response support. For the second theme, categories were: 1) improved senior center nurses¡¯ competency; and 2) senior center nurses' network.
Conclusion: Emergency nursing services are essential for health of elders in senior centers. For the safety of senior center users, it is urgent to provide support to solve barriers to emergency management and improve facilitators. The cooperation of agencies and staff in the development of an emergency management manual and provision of manpower support, improvement in record systems, and materials are also needed.
